Everything you need to apply for an Edgars account in 2026 — how the credit limit works, the exact requirements, how to apply, and an honest read on how easy it is to get.

Interest-free: Up to 6 months*Ease to get: MediumNCA-regulated credit
The Edgars account is a credit agreement regulated by the National Credit Act. Approval, your credit limit and terms are decided by the registered credit provider after an affordability assessment, and are not publicly fixed. StoreAccounts is an independent guide and does not process applications.

What is the Edgars account?

The Edgars account lets you shop fashion, beauty and homeware at Edgars, with the account issued and managed by RCS. Because it's an RCS card, it can also be used at a range of partner retailers.

Because it's regulated credit, every application triggers a credit check — so it's worth knowing whether you'll qualify before you apply.

Credit limit & how it works

Edgars sets your credit limit individually, based on your income and an affordability assessment under the National Credit Act. There is no fixed or publicly advertised limit range — your limit is decided when you apply and can change over time with your repayment history.

Interest-free & payment plans

Up to 6 months interest-free on Edgars in-store purchases (a 3-month plan is also offered), subject to availability — Edgars has noted a delay reinstating the 6-month plan. Interest-free does not apply at other retailers where the card works.

Who qualifies — the requirements

To open an Edgars account you'll generally need:

  • 18 years or older
  • Valid South African ID or driver's licence
  • Employed and earning R2,000 or more per month
  • Proof of income (latest payslip or up to three months' bank statements)
  • Passes the RCS affordability & credit assessment
No retailer can guarantee approval, and neither can we. Meeting these requirements puts you in the strongest position — the final decision rests on your credit profile and affordability.

Fees, interest & repayments

Like all NCA-regulated store accounts, an Edgars account carries a monthly service fee, an initiation fee on opening, optional credit-life insurance, and interest on balances outside any interest-free window. The exact rands are disclosed in your credit agreement before you sign — read that carefully.
